Karen Davis, AICP, Director of Community Development
Karen began her employment with the City in 1979. Karen started as a Planner, was promoted to Redevelopment Officer, then to Assistant Director of Community Development, and finally to Director of Community Development in 1996. Responsibilities which fall under Karen's directorship are issues related to planning, zoning, grant writing, and historic preservation.
Karen is a 1996 graduate of the Flint Hills Regional Leadership Program and currently serves on Manhattan Main Street, United Way of Riley County, and the Manhattan Konza Rotary Club. Other professional activities include membership and service as past President of the Kansas Downtown Development Association, and Kansas Main Street Advisory Board, as well as membership in the American Planning Association.
Karen has a B.S. in Geography from Emporia State University and a Masters of Regional and Community Planning from Kansas State University. She received her Professional Certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners in 1991.
Karen is married to David, who is employed at Abbott Aluminum. Inc., and has a grown son, Eric.
