Americans with Disabilities Act Compliance
Americans with Disabilities (ADA) Compliance and Education
As the City’s ADA Coordinator, Larry Hackney ensures that the City’s programs, facilities, and services are compliant with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act. An important part of ensuring compliance is providing training to City employees so that they maintain a high level of awareness with regard to the City’s requirements and obligations.
Mr. Hackney also provides informational and technical support to businesses, individuals, and other entities external to the City government. He works closely with disability advocacy groups, helps to solve problems, and looks into disability related complaints. Mr. Hackney is a frequent speaker on the Americans With Disabilities Act, speaking to students, businesses, non-profits, professional associations, advocacy groups, and others.
The City of Manhattan has made a strong commitment to making Manhattan a model of accessibility and enlightenment. The City’s position is that by strengthening the participation of persons with disabilities, the lives of all citizens are enhanced.
