All emergencies within the City of Manhattan, Riley County, and Pottawatomie County should be reported by calling 9-1-1. This number may be used to notify authorities of fire, police, and medical emergencies. The 9-1-1 dispatcher can dispatch the appropriate response agencies.
When calling 9-1-1, be prepared to give the following information:
- The address/location of the emergency
- Type of situation - fire, police, or medical
- For fires, provide type (house fire, smell of smoke, car, grass fire, etc.)
- Report if there is anyone inside of the building, and if the fire is threatening any structure
- Your name, address, and a phone number where you can be reached in case more information is needed
Do not call from the inside of a burning structure - LEAVE IMMEDIATELY and call from the nearest phone available. Do not hang up until the dispatcher does.
